1. How did I get it?
You caught it by breathing TB germs into your lungs. The germs were coughed or sneezed into the air by someone whose TB was catching. Probably it was someone you spent a lot of time with. Maybe someone in your family or a friend.
 
2. When did I catch it?
It could have happened lately, or it could have been years ago. People often have TB germs in their body for a long time without being sick.
 
3. What is TB?
TB is a disease in which germs attack various parts of the body, most often the lungs. Unless the germs are stopped, the disease may become worse. If it grows worse, it starts to destroy the affected parts.
 
4. Can TB be cured?
Yes! Almost all TB can be cured.
 
5. Who gets TB?
Anybody. Rich or poor. Young or old, men, women or children. Some people are at especially high risk for TB. Including the foreign born, racial/ethnic minorities, persons infected with the AIDS (HIV) virus. Drug or alcohol abusers, residents of correctional facilities, and socio-economically deprived persons. The TB germ can be passed to anyone.
